25,000th lesson in driving was celebrated by the Seat Young Driver Programme, a nationwide scheme aimed at giving 11 to 17-year-olds a taste behind the wheel.
Taking place with ADIs in branded Seat Ibizas fitted out with dual controls, these driving sessions which last for 30 minutes or an hour teach basic car skills and hazard awareness to under-17s.
Across the UK, the Young Driver schools are situated in nine retail and leisure locations such as Bluewater shopping centre in Kent, using off-road areas that aim to mimic driving on UK streets. ‘Fun and instructive’ environment for the youngsters is the objective of the scheme according to the people.
“Considering we launched in the middle of a recession, the fact that we’ve clocked up 25,000 lessons is a real endorsement for the scheme and I’m sure the addition of more regular venues will ensure even more young people benefit,” said Kim Stanton, Young Driver Training spokeswoman.
