About a third of all UK motorists are cutting down on driving due to high petrol costs, new figures have shown.

Via a recent RAC report, the news comes,  which said that the cost of operating a vehicle is currently the number-one concern for drivers. The study, which surveyed about 1,000 motorists across the UK, showed that drivers from rural areas have suffered the most, due to the skyrocketing cost of petrol, since public transport is not an option. The news comes as petrol averages around £1.37 per litre, whilst the average price of diesel is around £1.42.

They were finding new ways to commute to work and were also cutting out driving to visit friends and taking their children to after-school programs, Many respondents to the survey said. About 40 per cent of drivers said they were trying to combine as many errands as possible into a single trip to save on petrol costs.

Similarly, a whopping 65 per cent of motorists said that they would be making major reductions in driving should petrol prices continue to go up; whereas 58 per cent said that driving could soon become a luxury.
