British motorists warned over odd foreign driving laws

This summer, Brits planning on hiring a car while on holiday abroad are being advised to swot-up on some of the odd driving laws around the world before jetting off.

It's hoped that a series of guides warning people about some of the stranger laws they need to abide by will reduce the number of Brits having a run-in with the police.

For example drivers in Spain should know they are required to carry an extra pair of specs when driving and female motorists in California are prohibited from wearing a dressing gown behind the wheel.

Drinking anything (even water) whilst on the move is prohibited in Cyprus and in Vienna it’s prohibited to use your horn within the city.

Meanwhile, for anyone driving in Romania or Russia, it's apparently against the law to drive a dirty vehicle.

A spokesperson Avis UK, which made the guides, said that it was also compulsory if driving in Denmark to check for people under the car.

“We’ve created these guides to help our customers make the most of their holiday and we hope they’ll find them an insightful read before they take to the road this summer,” they added.
