A survey by car insurance provider Axa suggests that Britons driving in Europe are a hazard.
Britons drive carefully while on the continent; say only one in five Europeans. With an estimated seven million Britons heading off on continental driving holidays this summer, that's a lot of bad driving.
According to the insurer's study, UK motorists rank as seventh-best drivers in Europe, with the Germans taking pole position and the Greeks bringing up the rear.
Besides, Axa found that 27% of drivers didn't know if they needed a GB sticker when driving abroad, while only 28% could identify European road signs.
Four out of ten didn't know they needed to carry a reflective jacket and red triangle in France and 51% are not aware of the requirement to change beams on headlights for right hand drive countries.
Many also thought it acceptable to jump red lights in France and believed - wrongly, of course - that it's illegal to sound your horn in Spain on a Sunday.
A third didn't know if their car insurance covers continental European driving, states the survey, which also revealed that around two million Britons have accidents while driving abroad.
