Thomas Hitzlsperger, German international, has escaped a driving ban after being caught speeding at 107mph because he is currently 'unemployed'.
Hitzlsperger, who is said to have earned £45,000 a week at West Ham last season and has over £1 million in savings, successfully argued in court that he needed to have a car if he was to find a new club.
However, after being clocked doing the speed in his Range Rover on the 70mph limit A14 in Suffolk in April, instead he paid a £750 fine, £85 costs and a £15 victim surcharge.
His lawyer Craig Harris told the court: "It's the first time in his entire career since he was 18 he has been out of work.
"He showed complete deference to the police and humility when he was stopped and when he was asked what he was doing he said 80mph.
"Overall, he has been driving in the UK for about six years and he has never come to the attention of the authorities for driving offences."
Hitzlsperger, this summer, has already been linked with a return to former club Aston Villa who he played for between 2001 and 2005.
He then had spells at Stuttgart and Lazio before returning to England in 2010.
This summer, West Ham released him after their relegation from the Premier League.
He has been capped 52 times by Germany.
