Driving Instructor in Coventry Rails Against Proposed Insurance Changes
Posted: 01 March 2011445 Days ago

A female driving instructor in Coventry has rallied against the news that the European Court of Justice may rule that insurance companies can no longer use gender to decide on insurance policies.

Judges who will meet today may decide discriminating in this way based on gender could be illegal, forcing a repricing of all types of insurance. This would mean that female drivers would likely be subject to the same insurance policies as males.

Sadhna Patel, who runs a driving school in Coventry, claims that the changes would be unfair as women are less likely to create road accidents than men.

She comments "I don’t think it’s fair because I have male learner drivers and they are much more prone to accidents than my female drivers.

"The women I teach are much more reasonable and safer on the roads during lessons – they will think twice before a manoeuvre and they are more wary of what else is going on around them.

"I totally disagree with it. I’m sure other women will disagree. I’ve had a lot of girls pass and I’m teaching a lot of boys at the moment."
