In news that has come as a shock to driving instructors in coventry, a driving instructor has been jailed after she was found guilty of accepting bribes from her students to arrange for a test examiner to pass them regardless of their performance.
Salima Rashid, aged 49, accepted bribes of up to £1,000 a time to ensure that her driving students passed their driving tests. She co-conspired with two test examiner at Barking Test Centre in the fraud, poketing thousands in the process.
The grandmother of eight would then split the cash between two different examiners at the centre, including 38-year-old Nick Madigan, of Kitkatts Road, Canvey.
During her trial she denied ever taking the cash, blaming both the test examiners and her "corrupt" students. However a jury was unconvinced and she was sentenced to two years in prison.
One former student, Nadia Ali, said she had handed over a envelope, stuffed with £1,000 cash, to her instructor on the day of her test. She passed despite nearly crashing the car she was driving.
