EDT Driving Lessons Come into Force in Ireland
Posted: 05 April 2011409 Days ago

The Essential Driving Training (EDT) scheme is now officially in place in Ireland, meaning that learner drivers must have at least 12 hours of professional driving lessons with an approved driving instructor before they are allowed to take their driving test.

The scheme applies to anyone applying for a first time learner permit in the country, with the 12 hours being completed over a six month period, making an average of one lesson every two weeks.

The scheme has raised some ire with learner drivers, who must now shell out upwards of £200 to meet the minimum requirements, regardless of any teaching they may have had from external forces.
