Government to Double Funds for Pothole Repairs
Posted: 28 March 2011417 Days ago

Driving schools in Coventry are happy to heat that the government has given some good news to local councils with the announcement that they are going to double the funds made available for repairing potholes, with £100m being put aside for essential road repairs.

The windfall comes to help with the fixing of roads damaged during the difficult winter conditions experienced at the end of last year. The fundings have come from savings made by the department earlier in the financial year and will now be used to help fund the program.

Transport Secretary Philip Hammond commented "Potholes are a menace to all road users and I want councils to make fixing them a priority. That is why, when more funding became available, I agreed with the Chancellor that we would double the amount of money we are providing for repairs to be carried out. This represents a significant investment in road maintenance at a time of severe fiscal restraint, demonstrating the Government’s commitment to maintain our infrastructure to support motorists and businesses."
