A recent investigation conducted by Which? has revealed that a staggaring 53% of all speed cameras in England and Wales are non-operational at any one time.
This is evidence of the different uses of fixed speed cameras across different police authorities, with the investigation revealing that West Sussex has 60 speed cameras which are all operational while Lancashire has 287 but only ever uses 10% at any one time.
There are even regions with no speed cameras at all, plus ones that have turned all of theirs off due to budget constraints. This means that the chance of getting caught speeding differs drastically between counties.
The data was coupled with a survey that found that 83% of people thought that fixed speed cameras only stopped people from speeding in certain areas rather than changing their overall behaviour.
