Learner Drivers in Norwich to get Extra Driving Test Examiners
Posted: 01 March 2011445 Days ago

The time that learner drivers have to wait for a driving test in Norwich is looking set to be reduced after driving instructors got in touch with their local MPs to have something done about the near 4 month wait some learners were having to undergo before taking their driving test.

As a result, a number of new driving test examiners have been hired after a petition from a number of driving instructors and driving schools was presented to Norwich North MP Chloe Smith and Norwich South MP Simon Wright calling for them to help.

David Young, a driving instructor in the area, set up the petition after one of his driving students narrowly failed his driving test and was told that he would face a four month wait for another one.

Liberal Democrat MP Mr Wright commented on the new situation, stating "The situation now seems to be improving with new examiners starting in Norwich. I’m grateful to Mr Young for raising the concerns that he and many other local instructors had."

Conservative MP Miss Smith continued "The minister recognised what we argued about fairness in booking test slots, and will take any evidence that instructors or anyone else might have about attempts to charge for queue jumping. All in all we and the 100-plus instructors who signed the petition have now raised these issues at the highest level. I hope we’ve made a start at improving a few things for learners in Norwich."
