A survey has revealed that British motorists are clueless when it comes to driving abroad and completely unprepared for foreign roads.
Based on the written exam that French drivers have to take, two thousand motorists were asked by an internet insurance provider to sit a mock driving test. Required to answer 35 or more questions correctly in 20 minutes, 96% of drivers failed.
More than eight in 10 of those questioned were unable to identify basic road signs or did not know the French speed limit. A whopping 86% of participants did not know that the French drink-drive limit is much lower in France than in the UK.
To the tens of thousands of British drivers hitting continental roads this summer the news should give pause for thought.
