Teenager Given £33,000 Insurance Quote

A teenager who recently passed his driving test after spending £600 on driving lessons has been prevented from taking his new car out on the road after being quoted more than £32,000 to insure his second hand Vauxhall Corsa.

The insurance quote, which came from the AA, was more than ten times the value of the car itself, which he had purchased for £3,000 after passing his driving test earlier this month.

Jake Redshaw, aged 17, also received a quote of £21,000 from another insurance company, while his best quote was still for £6,000.

He has now been left hoping that his premiums will drop down after he turns 18 in May and comments "I thought passing my test would be the hardest part about getting my own wheels. It’s not as if I was trying to insure a high-powered sports car. I was gobsmacked."

Mum Carol, 45, continued "We all know that young lads are considered the greatest risk on the roads, but over £30,000 for insurance is a complete joke. They are being priced off the road."
