A woman who attempted a school run while she was five times over the drink drive limit has been banned from driving for five years. Justine McKay, aged 46, was arrested after being stopped by police in Stewarton in January.
Kilmarnock Sheriff Court heard how her breath contained 186 microgrammes of alcohol. The legal limit is 35. McKay later admitted the charge and, in addition to the ban, she was also fined £600.
Her lawyer commented "Police were extremely concerned about her health. That level could be fatal in terms of liver damage."
He added that she had made a "very, very bad error of judgement" and it was "very unlikely" her children, aged 13 and 17, would have got into the car.
Sheriff Brian Murphy continued "I'm extremely concerned that someone going to collect children from school could have such a very high reading."
