The government are considering banning young Scottish drivers from driving at night in a bid to cut down the Scottish car crash death toll. The government would even go so far as to fit black box transmitters and speed-limiting technology to their cars to ensure this.
The recommendations come after yet another teen tragedy in which 15 year old Ryan Bell died after being involved in a car crash at 2am with some of his friends.
Thirty-four young drivers, aged between 17 and 25, were killed on average each year between 2005 and 2009 – more than one third of the total road deaths.
The proposals have been backed by BRAKE, with a spokeswoman commenting "These restrictions would mean that young people could acquire skills such as driving at night in a safe way."
